Museum and Properties

victorian museum homeVictorian Museum Home is an 1866 Victorian Home recreating a family dwelling of the period. The Museum also features frequently changing exhibits of artifacts and collections pertaining to local history, Society office, research library, gift shop, and the Society's collections of artifacts and clothing. Open Monday through Friday, 10am-2pm. Closed Saturday, Sunday, and major holidays. Admission $2 adult, $1 child, free to Society members. Group tours by appointment.

kunz homeEmma Kunz House is a circa 1830 brick Greek Revival house believed to be the oldest such structure in Illinois. Furnishings depict the simple frontier life-style of early settlers to the area. Group tours by appointment.

victorian museum homeMessinger Cemetery and Veteran's Memorial John Messinger, pioneer, noted local and state politician, and state surveyor is interred here with his wife and members of his family. Anne Lyon, Messinger's wife, was the daughter of Matthew Lyon, Revolutionary War soldier and US Congressman. The cemetery features a memorial commemorating American losses at Pearl Harbor and is believed to be the first such memorial established in the United States.

Fundraising

The Society sponsors a variety of events for the purpose of raising funds to support its educational mission and other Society objectives.

Research

Basic information and research questions on St. Clair County history are handled at the Society Administrative Office. A fee of $2.00 per request, plus copy and postage cost is charged. Questions that require more than a minimal search may be referred to other libraries and archives. Members may use the Society library at no charge.

Donations

St. Clair County Historical Society is an IRS 501 (c) (3) corporation, organized and operated for charitable and educational purposes. Endowments and monetary gifts made to the Society are generally tax-deductible. Donations of historic artifacts and memorabilia relevant to St. Clair County history are encouraged and appreciated. Accepted donations are acknowledged with a receipt or letter of appreciation. Donors are encouraged to seek counsel from a tax advisor for specific information on tax deductibility.
